The Benefits of Introducing Retinol to Your Skincare Routine

Retinol... a name that all skincare lovers are familiar with. But what’s all the fuss about? What does it actually do to your skin, and why should you be using it? Here’s why...

Retinol is a synthetic derivative of vitamin A that helps to boost collagen production and can aid in cell turnover. This results in more even, smoother skin and helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and sunspots. Retinol is often used in the treatment of acne because of its rapid cellular turnover, and has been used to help treat some cases of skin cancer for this reason, too.

Retinol is best applied at night, and normally comes in the form of a serum or cream. Retinol is generally formulated with hydrating ingredients to minimize potential dryness and irritation. It is generally recommended that moisturiser is applied to the skin regularly when using retinol in order to avoid flakiness.

Tip: Layer your retinol on after your moisturiser to create a barrier that will help minimize irritation.

At Level 7 Beauty Hall, we stock many Retinol based products. A firm favourite of ours is the Symbiosis Revitalising & Redensifying Facial Serum. This serum has an anti-ageing, revitalising effect, resulting in skin immediately feeling softer and smoother. Symbiosis Revitalising & Redensifying Facial Serum is blended with active ingredients that aim to provide the skin cells with oxygen, increasing the skin’s elasticity and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. If you’re looking for similar results on a smaller budget, we also sell the Egyptian Gold Anti Ageing Retinol Face Serum by Grounded Body Scrub, Studio Botanic’s Face Oil and the L’Organiq Vitamin Boost Facial Serum.

Oio Lab offer a number of retinol based facial products to include their Sleep Tight Anti Ageing Night Facial Treatment Oil which comes highly recommended. This product is a potent blend of an advanced, stable form of 5% Retinol H-10, botanical extracts and organic oils. The high dose of hydrogenated retinol stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid and enhances skin elasticity. This oil-serum contains pomegranate seeds and sea-buckthorn berries extracts obtained with advanced extraction methods. The treatment is high in organic, cold-pressed cranberry, evening primrose, baobab and Sacha Inchi seed oils and supports the skin’s natural regeneration processes. The night elixir helps to tighten the skin, counteract the signs of ageing and enhances healthy skin colour.

It is important to note that retinol can trigger dryness, burning, stinging, and/or peeling of the skin within the first few weeks of use. You should also know that using retinol makes you more sensitive to the sun, so it’s essential that you use sunscreen if you’re thinking about including retinol in your skincare routine. It is not recommended that you use Retinol while pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have a skin condition such as eczema.
