It’s All About the Blush: the New Summer 2021 Makeup Trend that has Everyone Glowing
This year’s makeup trends have been all about experimenting with graphic colour and breaking the traditional makeup standards – think glossy lips, bold eyes and fluffy brows. One of the best things about the transition from winter to summer (apart from the glorious sunny days) is how we choose to switch up our go to makeup look and the products we use. But who’s to say the way we apply blush has to stay the same?
Once considered too garish and shockingly pink, blusher has now become a staple product for creating a fresh face look. This summer, bronzer has been temporarily allocated to the subs bench and blush is playing in full force. Unlike a bad bronzer, that can leave you looking ‘muddy', the abundance of tones and textures blush is now available in will no doubt leave you looking and feeling positively radiant. Thanks to modern makeup techniques and the versatility of makeup, blush application now has a new take that is light, pretty and youthful yet can still create that healthy sun-kissed glow from within. Now who doesn’t want that?
Here at Level 7 Beauty Hall we have collated some of our favourite on trend blush looks and the perfect products to help achieve this. So without further ado, here is our ‘it’s all about the blush’ round up:
1. Watercolour Flush:
With a delicate touch, blend a light pink (or whichever shade you prefer) on your cheeks, temples, and underneath your brow bones to give yourself a pretty all over flush and wake up your face. The sheerness of this technique mimics the opacity of watercolour painting, resulting in a light, natural look. @lisaeldridgemakeup demonstrates below:
Level 7 recommends using theBalm Cindy-Lou Manizer powder blush to achieve this look.
2. Peach Glow:
After that cute, fresh summer glow? Look no further than a peachy nude tone to achieve this. Simply blend the colour across the apples of your cheeks and upwards towards the temple to create a subtle lift and accentuate your cheekbones. This shade in particular suits all skin tones and is a great way to break into the realm of blush. See below for our inspo from makeup artist @hindash who illustrates how this can be achieved below:
Level 7 recommends using the Eloise Beauty liquid blusher in shade ‘Fleshy Nude’ to achieve this look.
3. 80s Power Blush:
For the girls who just want to have fun, a bolder sculpted blush look may be more up your street - no need to contour here! To be truly reminiscent of the 80s, apply a deeper red or plum tone blush to the hollows of the cheeks, working upwards into the hairline and onto the temple. For an even more dramatic look, work the blush onto the eyelids or even swipe along the lower lashline. See below Level 7’s pick from @tonimaltmakeup on how to incorporate this into your routine:
Level 7 recommends using the Carlucce Umpteen Cream cream blush in shade ‘Innocent’ to achieve this look.
